Who Does It Help?

For people with mild low vision, reading fatigue, reading difficulties including Dyslexia, and anyone who consumes large amounts of text. OrCam Read is a first-of-its-kind handheld device with an intelligent camera that seamlessly reads text from any printed surface or digital screen.

OrCam Read is for people with mild to moderate low vision, reading fatigue or reading difficulties, including Dyslexia.

How Does It Help?

The device has a smart camera that seamlessly reads text from any printed surface or digital screen. Enjoy the morning paper, read any book, and even read all that appears on your computer or smartphone screen.

OrCam Read can read a full page at once.

Laser capture focuses on specific segments of text

Portable & handheld – The device is wireless–no cord is connected while using it. Just slip it into your pocket, handbag, school bag, or briefcase and be on your way untethered.

Read at your own speed 

Smart Reading – You can control your OrCam Read by using voice commands. If you want to increase the volume, just say it!

Bluetooth – You can connect to compatible hearing aids, headphones or speakers

How Do You Operate It?

Simply hold and point at the text. No lengthy installation process, just open the box turn it on and start reading.

Funding may be available for purchasing the OrCam MyEye for those who are visually impaired or blind and want to start work or return to a job.

Access to Work (AtW) is an employment support scheme run by Jobcentre Plus. The scheme provides advice, practical and financial support to disabled people

Access to Work is available in England, Scotland, and Wales. There are different employment schemes available in Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

Jobs can be part-time or full-time or temporary or permanent.

The scheme has recently been extended to include disabled people on traineeships, supported internships, work trials and work academies.

Disabled Students' Allowance

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) is supported to cover the study-related costs you have because of a mental health problem, long term illness or any other disability.

This can be on its own or in addition to any student finance you get.

The type of support and how much you get depends on your individual needs - not your household income.

You do not need to pay back DSA.
